01. Getting Started with SocialBro

SocialBro is a tool that helps you to manage, to explore and analyze your Twitter community.

Downloading and Installing

To install SocialBro, we can visit the official site www.socialbro.com and click on “Get Started!”.

Then, we have to decide which version we want to install: the Chrome app or the Adobe Air app, available for all operating systems.

If you use the Chrome browser, we recommend you to install the Chrome app, faster than the Air version.

Chrome app

If we chose the Chrome version, by clicking on Download, we will redirect to the Chrome Web Store, where we have to click on “Add to Chrome”.

Once we have added the app, we are ready to enjoy SocialBro in our favorite browser.

Adobe Air version

If we chose the desktop version, we will need to have installed in our computer the Adobe Air. If we don’t have the program installed, no problem, we can click on Download to install the Adobe Air before downloading SocialBro. If we have the program installed, we will see the options: Uninstall, Run Now and Cancel the process. We click on Run Now.

Once installed, SocialBro appears as an application on your computer.

Use the Google Chrome address bar to search in SocialBro

If you use SocialBro for Chrome, you can now use the Google Chrome address bar (omnibox) to make searches in SocialBro. This feature is very useful when you want to find a Twitter user quickly or when you’d like to make a search in Twitter and see the results at a glance.

How to Get the “Best Time to Tweet” for a Custom Sample of Users

We’re pleased to offer you a different way to take advantage of the “Best Time Tweet” report, one of our highlight features. Now you can apply the “Best Time to Tweet” to a custom sample of users: you can get the report for any search, list, 3rd party Twitter account, etc.

Follow the steps below to see how to do this:

1. Choose the sample of users you’d like to know when they’re online: members of a list, members of a search, your competitor’s followers, etc.

2. When you have these users on your SocialBro screen, click on the arrow on the bottom navigation bar, then click the new option “config BTTT criteria”.

3. You’ll see this message:

4. If your previous report has already expired (we cache it during seven days), you can click on the “Best time to tweet” icon on the dashboard to get the new report customized for the selected sample of users. However, if your report was generated less than seven days, you have to wait until the report expires, then request the new one by clicking the “Best time to tweet” icon.

5. In the report, on the first panel, click on “criteria” to see in which sample the current report is based.

6. If you don’t change the criteria (the sample of users), the next report will be generated based on the latest sample you selected before request the report.

How to Add Multiple Users to a List With One Click!

From any search, just click on the arrow on the bottom navigation bar, then click “Add all to list”.

All the users will be added to the list! This feature is very useful if you want to clone a list from your competitor on Twitter, for example. You just have to add a list as a source, then click “Add all to list”. You can also add a text file as a source, then add all to a list that already exists or create a new one.

Remember that Twitter allows 20 lists per user with 500 users in each list.

Export your Optimal Tweet Schedule from SocialBro to HootSuite

SocialBro allows you to export your optimal tweet schedule from SocialBro to HootSuite in order to expose your tweets to the maximum audience! From our “Best time to tweet” report, we’ve implemented an algorithm that optimally schedules the tweets in HootSuite more efficiently, so reaching the highest number of followers.

Follow the steps below to see how to do this:

1. Run SocialBro and on the dashboard click the “Best time to tweet” icon

2. In the first chart (“When are your followers online?”), you’ll see the “Export HootSuite Schedule” option.

3. After clicking on this, you’ll see the dialog box below. Just select the days of the week you want to tweet, how many tweets per day and the minimum interval between each tweet.

4. Then, in the same dialog box, paste the tweets previously created (one per line). You can write the tweets directly in SocialBro, but we recommend you still do this in an appropriate text editor. In this file, include the text and the link. You don’t need to include the delivery times because SocialBro caculates them for you! Remember: HootSuite allows you to send a maximum of 50 tweets and have 200 messages concurrent scheduled.

5. Click on “Export”. You’ll have your tweets optimally scheduled in a CSV file that will be generated instantly with the format requested by HootSuite.

If you want to edit the file, we recommend you use Notepad (Windows) or TextEdit and TextWrangler (Mac).

6. Now, in HootSuite, in the “Compose message” space, click on “Scheduling” then “Bulk message uploader”.

7. You’ll see this dialog box, where you have to upload the CSV file generated in SocialBro, before selecting the Twitter account you want to schedule the tweets for, and click “Submit”.

8. You’ll have your tweets batch scheduled according to the “Best Time to Tweet” report that SocialBro has generated! The tweets will appear in the “Scheduled Tweets” tab on your HootSuite dashboard and on the “Publisher” tab on the left sidebar of HootSuite.

SocialBro alerts you when you try to follow someone you have previously unfollowed

A few users have noticed a new icon that shows up under each avatar on SocialBro when you unfollow someone or when you follow someone who you have already unfollowed.

In order to let SocialBro recognize the previous relationship between you and each member of your community, and thus activate the alert, the follow or unfollow must be identified in a previous synchronization. SocialBro will alert you even if you have followed or unfollowed a person on twitter.com or in any other application.

For example, today I follow five people through Tweetdeck and tomorrow I synchronize my account on SocialBro. These five people will appear as my new friends on SocialBro. A few days later, if I unfollow these people on SocialBro, the alert icon will immediately appear. If I unfollow them through Tweetdeck or another app, the icon will appear only after synchronization.

This is a simple feature which avoids the uncomfortable situation of following someone who you have previously unfollowed.

How can real-time analytics for Twitter be useful for you?

SocialBro now has real-time analytics for your Twitter community. You can visualize in real-time:

Who is currently on-line
The total number of followers of the on-line users
Number of on-line users per second
The top languages of these users
The apps and clients most used

You can learn about the real-time state of your community at a glance and identify users who are on-line and interact with them.
Language chart: If you have a multi-language account, this feature helps you identify the best language to tweet in at any given time.
Apps chart: you can get an idea of how active your community is in real-time. If they are mostly tweeting from apps like Foursquare or Instagram, for example, they probably are not aware of their timelines in that moment.
Monitoring list: With the lists, you can monitor a specific group of users applying the previously mentioned points.
You also can monitor a hashtag or a key word using the previous points to get an idea of how active they are.

To start enjoying the new feature, just click on the “Real-time analytics” icon on your SocialBro dashboard.

In this current free version of our tool, you can only monitor up to 100 active users every 10 seconds.

How to configure the Best Time to Tweet report to "Buffer" your tweets

SocialBro generates the Best Time to Tweet report by analyzing the timeline of each of your followers to discover when they are usually online during the week. With this information, we’ve implemented an algorithm that optimally schedules the tweets in the Buffer app. Buffer is an amazing tool that allows you to schedule the content you find online and add it to your Twitter stream.

As you can see in the video, you have to sign up in Buffer (if you don’t yet have a Buffer account), then click on the Best Time to Tweet icon in SocialBro. The tool is on the dashboard.

It takes about two hours for the report to be generated, so after getting the e-mail we will send you, run SocialBro and click on the Best Time to Tweet report again. In the first chart (“When are your followers online?”), you’ll see the “Config Buffer schedule” option.

After clicking on this, you’ll see this dialogue box:

You just have to select the days of the week you want to tweet, how many tweets per day and the minimum interval between each tweet. After that SocialBro automatically configures the optimal times for your tweets. Once you have done this, you’ll see in your settings in Buffer the times selected through SocialBro.

We recommend you configure each week your Buffer with the Best Time to Tweet from SocialBro, because users’ behaviour changes and communities grow.

How to sort and filter your Twitter community through the PeerIndex Score

To start managing your community with the PeerIndex score, you just have to synchronize the influence data, by clicking on the new icon you’ll see in the tool menu, on the dashboard.

Then, you’ll notice that every user will have a small number inside their avatar. This number reflects the PeerIndex score that each profile has in the social networks. You’ll be able to order your community by the influence data (by clicking on “Influence” in the interface footer).

Influence indicators evolution

On the dashboard you’ll see a new chart with the influence indicators evolution, where you’ll find the growth of your own PeerIndex, in addition to the evolution of your “Activity”, “Authority” and “Audience” scores.

In the Insights of your community, you’ll notice a new bar chart “Users by Influence Rank” (after the “Users by location” map) that allows you to visualize at which level your community is in terms of their PeerIndex Score.

How to export your account history from the Adobe Air version to the Chrome app

You are able to export your account history from the Adobe Air version to the Chrome app. We strongly recommend you to migrate to SocialBro for Chrome because of a bug from Adobe Air.

To do this, click on the Settings icon in the top navigation bar.

Choose the Account tab and click on Export History.

Then, in the Chrome app, click on the Settings icon again, and click on Import History, after selecting the exported file.

Currently, the users of Windows XP and Windows Vista (who use the Spanish version or have latin characters in its username) aren’t able to import their history from the Air version, because of a bug in the latest Google Chrome versions. In the next version of Google Chrome this bug will be solved, but if you don’t want to wait for it, you can install the development version here.
